Introduction

This pictorial presentation of disability acquired by this 80 year-old man has two purposes. (His identity is irrelevant to random readers.)

It is being sent to suppliers/manufacturers who may be inspired to look at their output and assess whether it could be supplemented.

It serves as an account of the man's specific medical history with the aim of progressing through relevant NHS queues. Hope springs eternal.

The first reader of this website was an NHS physiotherapist who was asked to prepare a report for the GP. 28 Feb 2022

Background

The author fell twice during the 2020 winter.  The first fall affected right hip, back and leg, the second fall affected the left side in similar ways. Back problems were the main outcome.

Knee pain started in the autumn of 2021.

Acid reflux has been ongoing since 2020 and can now be severe.

NHS problems dictate DIY.

March 2021   -  severe back and left knee pain.

How many people are waiting for hospital treatment in the UK during February 2021?

Pressure is growing on the government to take urgent steps to tackle waiting time figures for the almost five million people seeking hospital treatment in England—a number that has reached a record high.  Source

The author decided that private medical care would be necessary.

A private hospital was consulted in September 2021, the outcome of which was an injection into the left kneecap costing £550.  Other costs brought the total to over £1000.

A call was received from an NHS staff member in September 2021 advising that the author would receive a knee injection date in December 2021.

The point was made by him that there is only a small amount of arthritis in the left kneecap.  He refrained from saying that it must be very concentrated due to the extent of the pain involved.

The author lives in hope but uses this DIY approach to several problems.
