It only takes one or two clicks to realise there are scores of 

posture belts out there.

Oceans of them.  Confusing isn't it.

Two posture belts were tried and returned. They were positioned across the chest. This meant that the armpits were too tightly bound causing itch, rash and sweating.

 Such belts were of no use.

As you see, the posture belt is positioned just above the trouser belt in curious fashion. The new belt has been adapted to being low-slung. This achieves the goal of eliminating two circular rings of webbing in the armpit region.

The long pin is called either a blanket pin or a kilt pin.

A mouse looks after it.  

It dates 1950s in my camping & Scouting days.
